Approximately every 18 months the Millican Ogden Community Association will be notified by Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (A.G.L.C.) of their two day casino date which is usually held in the third quarter (July, August or September). These dates are randomly drawn by computer at the A.G.L.C. offices.
Volunteering at the Casino is easy and fun. Duties have been refined over a number of years and are now easy and pleasant to follow. A number of volunteers from the community are welcome to help at M.O.C.A. Casino’s. Full training is supplied therefore no experience is required. The following are some of the Volunteer positions that are required - General Manager, Banker, Cashier, Chiprunner, Countroom Staff. The casino is a safe endeavor. Cameras and Security monitor the casino premises at all times. If it is desired, a security guard will be glad to escort any volunteer to their vehicle at the end of their shift.
Overall responsibility for our casino will be with the General Manager. The General Manager is a volunteer from our organization or community. A hired Games Manager, through the Pit Managers, Floor Supervisors and Dealers will provide assistance to volunteer Chip Runners as stages of the casino operations start to unfold. Training and support is provided by a licensed Casino Advisor in both the Cash Cage and Count room. M.O.C.A. is appointed an Advisor from A.G.L.C. who is well versed in Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission, Casino Terms & Conditions and Operating Guidelines.
Volunteers are provided a hot or cold meal of their choice during their shift at the casino. Food from outside sources is not permitted. If particular volunteers have specific dietary needs, they may bring food prepared at home. The Casino is a smoke free environment. Volunteers that do smoke have designated areas that they may use.
Casual dress is acceptable for all volunteers. Volunteers are not allowed to gamble on during the two days that M.O.C.A. has the casino license. This means that even if a volunteer works a day shift on day one they cannot play at the tables or slot machines during the evening shift when they are not scheduled to work. The consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited during your shift.
Proceeds from Casino’s have helped to support ongoing M.O.C.A. programs & capital expenditures. Past proceeds have helped with roof repairs, new flooring in Lounge, new ceiling tiles in main hall, new table & chairs in main Hall & Lounge, new paint on walls & doors in Hall and Lounge, new lighting in Hall & Lounge, new doors & windows in hall to name a few.
